Let's Take It Outside! Tips for Planning Your Epic Outdoor Wedding

If you're dreaming of tying the knot al fresco style, soak up some tips for crafting the outdoor wedding of your dreams. From dodging pesky weather snags to decking out your space with flair, we've got you covered. And we’ve chosen to share some amazing pictures from Tara and TJ’s wedding in Kerang!

Embrace the Great Outdoors:

When it comes to outdoor weddings, Mother Nature is your best mate and your biggest challenge. Embrace your chosen outdoor setting, whether it's a lush garden, a sandy beach, or a rustic vineyard. Just remember to have a backup plan in case she decides to throw a curveball!

Dress to Impress (and Stay Comfortable!):

Leave the stilettos at home babe. Opt for comfy footwear that won't sink into the grass or sand. Gents, consider lighter fabrics and breathable attire to beat the heat. Think linen.

Flexibility is Key:

Outdoor weddings come with a side of unpredictability, so it pays to stay flexible. Be prepared to roll with the punches if the weather takes a turn or if your furry wedding guests decide to steal the show. After all, it's these unexpected moments that make for the best stories! We’ve literally seen a mob of cows bust out of their paddock mid ceremony, and the couples hunting dogs start howling as the celebrant announced them as married. Brilliant haha.

Create an Outdoor Oasis:

Transform your outdoor space into a haven of comfort and style. Think cozy seating areas adorned with plush cushions and twinkling fairy lights, rustic wooden signage pointing the way, and DIY floral arrangements bursting with seasonal blooms. Let your creativity run wild! I would also suggest that you talk to your vendors, see if they have a fresh take on what you can do and lean into their expertise.

Keep Your Guests in the Loop:

Make sure your guests are well-prepared for an outdoor affair. Include helpful info on your wedding invitations, such as dress code suggestions, terrain details, and any special info they might need to know about how they can access the property, what local hotels to book at, if there is a bus running back into town at 11pm that kind of thing. Trust us – they'll thank you for it!

Stay Hydrated (and well fed!):

Keep your guests cool and hydrated with refreshing beverages served throughout the day, and make sure that the minute your ceremony is over your offering them something to eat whether it be from a grazing table with fresh cheeses, fruit and crackers to roving canapés. One of the worst guest rated experiences will always be that you heard the guests were hungry.

Timing is Everything:

When it comes to outdoor weddings, timing can make all the difference. While the Aussie climate is pretty ace all year round, some seasons are more suited to outdoor celebrations than others. For balmy beach weddings, summer is your go-to season, but be prepared for scorchers! Autumn offers mild temps and stunning foliage, making it perfect for garden or vineyard weddings. Spring brings blooming flowers and pleasant weather, while winter weddings can be downright magical with cozy blankets, roaring fires, and crisp air. Dont knock it just because it will be cold. Your guests will know to dress appropriately and we’ll assume you’ll take care of them with open fireplaces to stand in front of or a bonfire.

Consider the vibe you're after and choose the season that speaks to your soul – just be sure to have a Plan B in case of any unexpected weather antics! 🍂🌞🌼❄️

Capture the Magic:

It would be remiss of me not to mention that you should enlist the help of a fun loving photographer (ahem, that's where we come in!) to capture every moment of your outdoor celebration. From candid shots to romantic sunset portraits, your wedding album will be chock-full of memories to cherish for a lifetime.

So there you have it, – our top tips for planning an outdoor wedding that's as unforgettable as it is epic!
